The Thursday Murder Club

October 2024 ยท 2 minute read

The Thursday Murder Club is a book by Richard Osman about a group of elderly civilians in a posh (at least seemingly so, I have no gauge for these things) retirement village solving murders for fun.

What’s good?

This book really kept me guessing as to who the murderer might be and provided enough plot twists and excitement along the way to keep me thoroughly enthralled. The dialogue between the characters and the narrative of themselves is very down to earth which keeps the book very grounded while also providing a unique perspective.

What’s bad?

I’m hard pressed for this one as I really enjoyed the book but the book did end up on a bit of a unresolved note (resolved to the audience but not the characters in the book) and there’s a lot of death at the end. From a real world perspective it gets away with this at least because it’s a retirement village, so I imagine people are dying all the time, but it also does feel a bit of a cop out.

How much did I read?

The whole book!

Conclusion

A very enjoyable book and I’m looking forward to starting the next one in the series if I can get it in before the Sanderson Wind of Truth release.
